Celebrity Poker
Good research has resulted into writing this article for you, I hope it helps.
Do you have a favorite card game, such as Texas Hold Em, and love to see it played out between competing poker players? Well, combine that card game with your favorite celebrity and you have a winning hand of cards. Celebrity poker tournaments have risen in popularity and are actually doing a great deed for the community. Actresses, actors and other celebrities get together for a game of cards and their winnings are donated to their favorite charity. It is a fun thing to watch and you should definitely check it out.
"Celebrity Poker Showdown" was a series which aired on Bravo for five seasons. It had people tuning in to watch their favorite celebrities play cards against each other in a series of tournaments. The winner of each tournament would go on to play in a championship match. The end goal for each of the celebrities was to win a lot of money for his or her favorite charity. It was a way to play their favorite card game and raise money.
The "Celebrity Poker Showdown" started off with five players. First, there were five games played, and the winner of each game was given a silver poker chip to commemorate his or her win. Then the final poker championship was played and it was comprised of each celebrity winner from the previous five games. It was very much like The World Series of Poker, where people are eliminated through a series of rounds to get to the championship game. The card game played was Texas Hold Em and the stakes went as high as a million dollars. That is quite a hefty purse!
If you think that Bravo sought out B list actors and actresses, then you would be greatly mistaken. Such stars as Don Cheadle, Ben Affleck and Jason Alexander took part. The contest of skill was not limited to actors and actresses though. Dave Navarro, Coolio and even sports legend Dennis Rodman all sat at the green poker table and placed their bets to win for their favorite charity.
Unfortunately, Bravo elected not to continue "Celebrity Poker Showdown." The show only lasted five seasons but eight tournaments were held during that time. Five seasons is not a bad showing, as some television shows barely last one. Most of the tournaments were held at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada but the final tournament was moved to Harrah's in New Orleans, Louisiana. The last poker tournament was to benefit the Hurricane Katrina victims so at least something good came from the entire series.

Today's Tip On Poker
Before you can get into the more intricate poker rules and the betting and the terminology used, such as "the flop" or "the river," you must know what makes up a winning hand. This is the combination of cards that can win you the pot. First is a Straight Flush, which is five cards in numerical order that are entirely of the same suit. The highest combination of this flush is the Royal Flush, which is A-K-Q-J-T. This is the best hand possible, yet the odds of being dealt this hand are very low. |
