The Main Attraction of the World Series of Poker

You have come to the right place to find the excellent article on this topic.

It is one thing to be playing cards in your neighbor's or friend's den but quite another to be involved in the World Series of Poker. This is the grandfather of all card tournaments and is one in which the best of the best participate for the chance to win a multi-million dollar purse. The card games are many and the chance to win a seat in the final round is possible for those who know how to play a good game of cards. This is a game of skill, luck and sheer determination to duke it out to the winner's circle.

The World Series of Poker started by Tom Moore in 1968 and was held at the Holiday Hotel and Casino. The location was Reno, Nevada and it was an invitation event. Thanks to Benny Binion, the WSOP became famous as he and his sons worked hard to make poker into the exciting game it has become. Prior to the 1970's, poker was not found in most casinos. Binion helped change that and helped promote the WSOP and all of its many games, such as Texas Hold Em, Five Card Stud, H.O.R.S.E., and other fantastic card games all played for money.

Perhaps it is the money that is the key focus of the WSOP. There is little doubt that the no limit, Texas Hold Em game held at the end of the event is the main draw. Each time it is held, audience members and television viewers around the world turn their heads to watch as some of the greatest poker players pit themselves against each other in a game of skill and luck. However, it is not just anyone who can sit at that green poker table and take a run with Dame Fortune. Only the best in the world make it and it is why people stare fascinated as each hand of cards is dealt by the dealer.

If you want to compete in the World Series of Poker, then you are going to have to hone your game skills. Practice, practice and more practice is the way to learn how to play the game and learn how to "read" your competitors. You can find out how to play poker by going online to such places as www.fulltiltpoker.com or by reading some of the self-help books written by the best players in the industry.

Today's Tip On Poker

Unfortunately, Bravo elected not to continue "Celebrity Poker Showdown." The show only lasted five seasons but eight tournaments were held during that time. Five seasons is not a bad showing, as some television shows barely last one. Most of the tournaments were held at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada but the final tournament was moved to Harrah's in New Orleans, Louisiana. The last poker tournament was to benefit the Hurricane Katrina victims so at least something good came from the entire series.
